Common iPad 5 problems we repair

These are the faults we most often see on the iPad 5th Generation (2017) before choosing the correct repair route.

iPad 5 repair questions

How do I know whether I need front glass or LCD repair?

Choose front glass repair if the glass or touch layer is damaged but the picture is clear. Choose LCD repair if the image has lines, blotches, flickering or no display. If both are damaged, choose the full screen assembly.

Will Touch ID still work after an iPad repair?

Touch ID depends on the original paired home button. We take care to retain it where possible, but a physically damaged home button may limit what can be restored.

Do I need to erase my iPad before repair?

No. Standard hardware repairs do not normally require your data to be erased, though we always recommend keeping a backup before any repair.

Can I post my iPad from anywhere in the UK?

Yes. Book online, pack the iPad securely and send it to SimplyFixIt. We repair and test it, then return it using insured delivery.

What happens if the frame is bent?

A bent frame can stop a new screen or digitiser sitting correctly. We will assess this before repair and contact you if it changes the repair route.

Technical specifications

These details help match searches for Apple model names, A-numbers and technical descriptions.

The iPad 9.7-inch (officially iPad (5th generation)) is a tablet computer designed, developed, and marketed by Apple Inc. After its announcement on March 21, 2017, conflicting naming conventions spawned a number of different names, including "seventh-generation iPad" or "iPad (2017)".

It is the five years core iPad tablet successor to the iPad (4th generation) where the 2013 iPad Air was released as the first iPad to be exclusive on the iPad Air lineup instead.

Unlike the iPad Air 2, this iPad does not have a fully laminated display, and also lacks an anti-reflective coating.

On March 27, 2018, Apple announced its successor, the sixth-generation iPad. This also marked the discontinuation of the 2017 iPad.
