Common iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (1st Generation) problems we repair

These are the faults we most often see on the iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (1st Generation) before choosing the correct repair route.

iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (1st Generation) repair questions

Why is glass repair not available for iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (1st Generation)?

On this iPad, the display is fully laminated. That means the front glass, touch-sensitive digitiser and LCD or OLED panel are fused together into one sealed display assembly, so a separate glass-only repair is not a reliable repair route. We replace the complete screen assembly instead.

Will Touch ID still work after an iPad repair?

Touch ID depends on the original paired home button. We take care to retain it where possible, but a physically damaged home button may limit what can be restored.

Do I need to erase my iPad before repair?

No. Standard hardware repairs do not normally require your data to be erased, though we always recommend keeping a backup before any repair.

Can I post my iPad from anywhere in the UK?

Yes. Book online, pack the iPad securely and send it to SimplyFixIt. We repair and test it, then return it using insured delivery.

What happens if the frame is bent?

A bent frame can stop a new screen or digitiser sitting correctly. We will assess this before repair and contact you if it changes the repair route.

The first generation of iPad Pro is a line of iPad tablet computers designed, developed, and marketed by Apple Inc, first sold in 2015 at a screen size of 12.9 inches. A smaller model, based on the form factor of the iPad Air 2, with a 9.7 inch screen, was announced on March 21, 2016 and released on March 31, 2016 alongside the first-generation iPhone SE.

The 12.9 inch model was announced alongside the Apple Pencil, and both models were the first iPads to use the Pencil as an input device. The 12.9 inch iPad Pro is larger than all previous iPad models and was the first iPad to feature LPDDR4 RAM.
