Thornaby-on-Tees, commonly referred to as Thornaby, is a town and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. Situated on the south bank of the River Tees, approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) west of Middlesbrough and roughly 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Stockton, it forms part of the Teesside built-up area. It had a population of 24,741 at the 2011 census. The town is home to Queen's Campus, Durham University.

Traditionally in the North Riding of Yorkshire, Thornaby was incorporated as a municipal borough between 1892 and 1968, when it was transferred to the County Borough of Teesside. In 1974, Thornaby was transferred to the re-established borough of Stockton-on-Tees since 1974 and became part of the county of Cleveland between 1974 and 1996. A civil parish called Thornaby was re-created in 1996 and it was returned ceremonially to North Yorkshire in the same year.
