Remove the SIM card from your iPhone or iPad

Learn how to remove or transfer the SIM card in your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi+ Cellular models).

After you remove or transfer your SIM card, insert the tray completely and in the same orientation that you removed it (it will fit only one way).

Only use the SIM tray that came with your device. For example, the SIM tray from an iPhone 6s will not fit in an iPhone 7.


iPhone

To pop open your device's SIM tray, insert a paper clip or a SIM-eject tool into the hole beside the tray. Find your model below to locate the SIM tray.

The SIM tray is on the side:

  1. iPhone 7 Plus
  2. iPhone 7
  3. iPhone 6s Plus
  4. iPhone 6s
  5. iPhone 6 Plus
  6. iPhone 6
  7. iPhone SE
  8. iPhone 5s
  9. iPhone 5c
  10. iPhone 5
  11. iPhone 4s
  12. iPhone 4 (GSM model)

The SIM tray is on the side of iPhone 4 and later models

Find the SIM tray on the top:

  1. iPhone 3GS
  2. iPhone 3G
  3. Original iPhone

Tge SIM tray is on the bottom of iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, and Original iPhone


iPad

To pop open your device's SIM tray, insert a paper clip or a SIM-eject tool into the hole beside the tray. Find your model below to locate the SIM tray.

The SIM tray is on the right side, near the bottom:

  1. iPad Pro (9.7-inch)
  2. iPad Pro (12.9-inch)
  3. iPad Air 2
  4. iPad Air
  5. iPad mini 4
  6. iPad mini 3
  7. iPad mini 2
  8. iPad mini

The SIM tray is on the left side, near the top:

  1. iPad (4th generation)*
  2. iPad (3rd generation)*
  3. iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G (GSM model)*

*When you insert your paper clip or included SIM-eject tool, use a 45° angle

Pad Wi-Fi + 3G

On iPad Wi-Fi + 3G, you can find the SIM tray on the left side, near the bottom.
